Today's post comes from Youtuber and blogger, Angie, the mind behind HotandFlashy.

Here are Angie's tips:

1. Find Good Lighting

Start with your phone and walk around your house.

The goal is to find the best light with your phone's camera facing you.

Notice how a harsh shadow is casted on her face when the window is to the side of her.

Now, compare that with this angle when she simply turns her body.

Wow....

THAT'S CRAZY!

Now, Angie shows us her regular setup that has windows on all three sides.

The result is flattering.

This is what that looks like from her home

But...but...

About bad weather you might ask.

Well, Angie has that covered too.

She adds a lamp behind the camera like this

Want a supplemental light source? Try a ring light.

2. Find Flattering Camera Angle

The goal is to look slightly up.

You DO NOT want to look down.

This is Angie's setup.

Notice how her camera is slightly above eye-level.

Note: don't sit too close unless you want your face to be distorted.

Pro-tip: check yourself out on Zoom pre-meeting to ensure you look good.

Go to Zoom and click "New Meeting":

Angie noticed there was too much space above her head so she made a quick adjustment.

She tilted the screen down.

Voila!

Now... what about Facetime calls?

Angie uses a small, tabletop tripod.

If you don't want to spend the money, just use a coffee mug!

Note this only works if you have a pop socket on the back of your phone.

3. Put a little effort into hair and makeup

Angie recommends some lip balm, spritz your hair, curl anything a bit messy, and try dry shampoo if you don't want to shower.

4. Reduce distractions

Make sure your background is clutter-free.

Angie admits that while her background on-camera looks good, if she were to turn the camera around...

She says it isn't flattering...

We hear you Angie!

Note: Try to limit how often you look at yourself or adjust your hair.

5. Dress appropriately

Avoid oversized clothing.

Make sure your top half is on-point.

The bottom-half... not so much 😉
